•The preservation of mental and physical health
by preventing or treating illness through services
offered by the health profession.

interventions, whether
directed to individuals or to
populations.
SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
 Young adults make up the largest age-group of
uninsured Americans; in the U.S, as much as 10%
of the uninsured population is college students.

 Almost 1 out of 3 people between the ages of 18-24

is uninsured.

 About 20 percent of students in Truman College

have no health insurance.
OUR SOLUTIONS
1. Universal Health Care
2. Free clinics
3. Preventive medicine
4. Transform the parking
lot
Universal Health Care

Everyone would have access to the care they need

and deserve.
Doctors will only have to deal with one insurance
claim form and bill only one payer
No one will be turned away because they can’t afford
to get treatment.
Free clinics

doctors, technicians, etc.
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

 Anti-smoking awareness.
 Working towards improving the American diet, as
heart disease (often caused by obesity) is the
number one killer in America.
 Working to improve drug and alcohol awareness.
TRANSFORM THE PARKING GARAGE INTO AN
AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE CLINIC FOR THE
COMMUNITY
 Students pay a fee, which would be included
in tuition.
 Truman Nursing students would be able to
complete their clinicals locally.
 Biology students could intern or find careers
working as lab technicians, etc.
 This health care center could be based on a
sliding scale, allowing patients from the
Uptown community to pay what they are
able to afford at a given time.
Preserving Student Health

Alternative Solutions for Uninsured Students at

Truman College
1. Alter the cafeteria’s fast food to organic,
green and multi-nutrition food.
2. Open the gym to all Truman College students especially in the winter period.
3. Discourage students from smoking and prohibit smoking around the building.
4. Install windows for every classroom to stop conveying stale air and airborne allergens, pathogens and mold spores to students through HVAC equipment.
5. Organize more outside activities, such as marathons, summer camp and winter swimming.
6. Establish mental health consultation service.
ADVANTAGES:

1. INCREASING LIFE-EXPECTANCY
2. KEEPING ILLNESS AT BAY
3. SAVING MEDICARE FEE.
4. IMPROVING STUDY-EFFICIENCY
BY ENHANCING
IMMUNITY SYSTEM.

Very nice!
Disadvantages:
1. Excess school budget,
2. Local vendors may experience a limited sale of cigarettes
3. Enrollment rate may slump because of the no smoking ban.
