The document discusses good civil engineering practices related to reinforcement, shuttering, and concreting. Some good reinforcement practices include advance preparation of bar bending schedules and proper placement of steel. Good shuttering practices involve using waste steel as cover bars, sealing holes, and using tie rods to maintain shape. Good concreting practices include using funnels for narrow members, proper mix design, and cleaning shuttering before pouring.

Any methodology to give optimum results in regards of quality or efficiency and
which is duly implemented in work process; can be a good practice
Good practices in reinforcement:
• Preparation of BBS well in advance of the project commencement and inserting it into MSP as micro-activities Advantages: Gives the material procurement accurate timing and quantity. Material is ready to be placed well in advance. Minimum space is utilized for stacking. • Making sure the steel is placed in proper position so that it does not conflict with the shuttering • Cutouts and inserts should be pre-planned and properly reinforced to keep casings in position during concreting.
Good practices in shuttering:
• Use waste steel welded to the main bars as covers at the maximum spacing of 1.5m in both the axes. It is an excellent way to maintain cover and position of the bars after shuttering. • Holes in the Shuttering material should be covered by pasting a duct tape or by inserting a wedge of timber in the opening and cutting off the protruding part. It prevents bad patches on the face of the structure. • Use of tie rods at a maximum spacing of 2m in both the axes. It maintains the shape and size of the structure and prevents bulging. • Using foam strips at the base of the shuttering. It eliminates the honeycombing at the joints. • After concreting (1hr later), the shuttering if washed properly externally, it increases the life of shuttering material and makes de-shuttering an easier process.
Good practices in concreting:
• Use funnels to pour in to members where width is less than 400mm. It eliminates the spillage of concrete. • Using aggregate and sand correction to maintain a homogenous mix. It helps maintains the strength of concrete and cement consumption is uniform. • Using an air compressor to clean up the slab shuttering before concreting is an easier way to deal with deleterious material. Use of magnets helps remove nails and binding wire from the debris lying on the floor. If water supply is abundant water jet may also prove an efficient way to clean up the shuttering before concreting.
