ORAL COMMUNICATION

Oral Communication is also know as verbal communication:-it is


an interchange of verbal messages between sender and receiver.

It is more immediate that the written communication.

It is more natural and informal.

A manager should be able to converse or discuss persuasively,


effectively and convincingly.
He needs oral communication skills that includes abilities:-

i.To help in problem solving

ii.To resolve conflict

iii.To influence people to work together

iv.To persuade others to be involve in organisational goals

v.To be assertive without being aggressive

vi.To develop listening skills

vii.To an effective negotiator

viii.To make a proposal

Barriers to Oral communication

1.Status:-
There are formal and informal status levels that
affect the effectiveness of face-to-face communication. The
exchange of ideas does not take place because of the level of
status in an organization.

2. Halo Effect:-
The impression of the listener and not the message
determines the validity of communication

3. Complexes:-
A lack of confidence or a sense of superiority may prevent
proper oral in interactions between persons differently positioned.
4.Closed and all knowing mind:-
Listening to large extent, depends on
one’s curiosity to know things.

6.Premature evaluation and hurried conclusions as


distortions

7.Abstracting
It is a barrier when the listener approaches a
message from a particular point of view focusing his/her attention
on some aspects of the conversation or dialogue. The rest of the
communication is missed.

It interferes with the acceptance of new information
as it is. At times the listener fails to accept or respond to
assumptions underlying the new information communicated as
s/he is unprepared to change from the old basis of beliefs and
knowledge.
