Dark lonely nights

The solitude screams at me
The silence laughs

Desire for a touch

Or a kiss
Or a sigh
To calm my aching heart.
Yet the specters of the past
Merely agitate my deprived soul
And mock my misery as I wait
Wondering when my love will call

I wait impatiently
I wait longing for that which I cannot have
The distant love that tugs at my heartstrings
And command me to lust and to desire
To miss and to long
To smile and to love

So I lie awake
Waiting for the peace that dawn and exhaustion will bring
Praying that when morning comes
My dreams will become reality
And I will be able to
Be
And to have that which I cannot have

So the hours pass

And the stars fly
And the moon goes back to sleep
Through it all I lie awake
Waiting
For the peace that dawn and exhaustion bring
Waiting
Just waiting
In the dark lonely nights
For the one whose memory evokes such powerful response
Such a deluge of hope
A watershed of life
Keeps me waiting
͚Til my dreams become reality
