Course Description:
Theory of system and equipment protection, characteristics of relays, relay coordination,
fuse coordination and fault analysis. Protection of Transformers, Capacitors, Conductors
with protective relays and fuses. Load and Load Inrush Currents, Circuit Breakers,
Sectionalizers, Reclosers, Coordination of devices.

Course Objective:
Students will be proficient at applying protective relays and schemes to Transmission
and Distribution Systems Lines and components.

Homework assignments: 20%
2 - Midterms 25% each Oct 7 and Nov 11
Final Exam – 30%

Method of Instruction:
Class room lectures – supplemented with notes and selected articles
provided by instructor.
