City Restructures to Reduce Costs and Improve Efficiencies

Penticton, BC: As the City of Penticton moves forward to address its financial
challenges while ensuring that the City’s public safety and quality of life are
protected, the City today announced an organization-wide restructuring which will
result in the elimination of 21 staff positions.

“The City is facing a very difficult financial challenge,” says Mayor Dan Ashton.
“The loss of positions due to the reorganization creates a real hardship for the
employees and their families, and Council recognizes that this decision has
serious consequences and our hearts go out to all those affected. This has been
an extraordinarily difficult decision that had to be made, and Council has
proceeded with extreme caution to ensure that these changes are being put into
place in a responsible manner to address today’s economic reality.”

The restructuring falls across all departments and is part of a larger plan to
improve efficiencies and customer service to the citizens of Penticton.
