MEDIA RELEASE Friday 21 May 2010

Too Much Information for Local Young People

Yarra Plenty Regional Library’s latest e-newsletter will provide too much information for local
young people, when it is launched in May.
Dubbed TMI, or Too Much Information, the e-newsletter will feature library and local events for
teens, new library book releases like graphic novels, reviews, interesting links, opportunities and
freebies.
YPRL Youth Services Coordinator Daniela Gullaci says the e-newsletter is a way of reaching
local young people to engage them, as well as inform them about services and opportunities
available in their local community. ‘We want to engage them with the libraries as places to hang
out, do homework or research, find interesting books, cds and dvds, play games, and attend fun
events.”
Teens will be able to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in the local area, including YPRL’s
Teen Games Night at Lalor Library, held on the first Friday of the month from 5.00pm to 7.00pm,
Thomastown Library’s teen get-together ‘A Place to Hang Out’ held every Tuesday from 3.30pm
to 5.00pm, Ivanhoe Library’s teen readers group the Dog-Eared Book Club held the first
Thursday of each month from 4.00pm until 5.00pm, and the Get Loud music events held every
year during Youth Week.
“One of the other ideas behind the e-newsletter is to provide more opportunities for young
people to connect with each other,” Ms. Gullaci said.
Young people, as well as youth workers and organisations, parents and teachers are all
welcome to sign up for the e-newsletter at http://www.yprl.vic.gov.au/tmi. Young people signing
up during June will be in the running for some great prizes.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES:
• A photograph of young people among piles of event flyers, books and other ‘information’ at
a local YPRL branch.
• Youth Services Coordinator Daniela Gullaci is available for interview.
