Assessment of Groundwater Contamination from a Hazardous Dump Site in
Ranipet Tamilnadu, India

The paper makes a groundwater flow and contaminant transport modelling for a
chromium affected abandoned tannery factory site. Although the authors argue that
limited effort has been directed towards the assessment of tannery-waste contaminated
lands and the potential risks for ecology and the environment, the paper merely serves as
a case study for the application of MODFLOW and MT3D. The paper does not clearly
define its objectives and fails to justify as to why a reader should be interested to read the
article first of all. The paper does not describe any new science, nor there is anything new
in the modelling aspects. Groundwater quality has been poorly described. The language
has been simple, but the paper has been written very casually; there are several
grammatical mistakes. There are no scales in the figures. Names mentioned in the text
must be shown in the concerned figures. The authors possibly have worked very hard for
the paper, but the presentation has been poor. Suggestion is to revise the paper thoroughly
in international context, and resubmit it to the HJ for future consideration. The authors
must highlight the unique contributions of the paper to merit its publication.
