What Was Announced & What Does It Mean?
 On June 12, 2007, SonicWALL agreed to acquire Aventail for $25 million
in cash:

customers & partners will look for new SSL VPN solutions
• This is an opportunity to find new customers & sign new partners while selling

Why Juniper is Better then SonicWALL/Aventail Solution?
 On June 13th webcast, SonicWALL’s CEO admitted to slow sales of its SSL VPN portfolio
• This forced them to acquire Aventail despite SonicWALL’s lack of enterprise experience
• Unlike SonicWALL, Juniper has experience selling to all markets (SMB, mid/large enterprises, SPs)

 Integrating Aventail portfolio, channels, programs, etc. will take time & cause confusion
• Which company’s marketing promotions will be continued/discontinued?
• How will this acquisition affect maintenance releases for Aventail’s products?
• Which company to contact for sales & tech support?
• How long will SonicWALL keep Aventail’s SSL VPN standalone offering? Will they EOL it & focus on
integration?
• No such concerns when dealing with a stable company in the SSL VPN space like Juniper

 No expertise working with mid-to-large enterprise customers & service providers


• SonicWALL known for selling SMB products; no knowledge of enterprise customers’ needs
• Stated it will maintain its channel model and not sure yet how it would work with large customers
• In the “SonicWall acquisition could hurt Aventail users” article *, Zeus Karravala verifies this concern:
• "What if SonicWall turns the development of the product to SMB issues, not enterprise ones? If
SonicWall continues to develop product geared at Aventail's traditional market, then there's nothing to
worry about. But that's not SonicWall's core competency."
