This document is an assignment submitted by Prajakta Anand Joshi to C.K.Thakur college on the topic of "Malicious software & Internet security". It includes an acknowledgment thanking the guidance of teacher Richa Verma. The preface explains that malicious software is a problem even for antivirus vendors and end-users, but can be prevented with the right tools, settings, and safe computing practices. It also discusses how the internet represents an insecure channel and different protection methods. The assignment then outlines its contents over 6 topics related to viruses, countermeasures, denial of service attacks, hacking, security policies, and strategies for a secure network.

Submitted to: C.K.Thakur college department of Computer Science ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
This is assignment written on one of the important topic
“Malicious software & Internet security”. I am thankful for the guidance of honorable teacher Mrs. Richa Verma from the department of Computer Science. This assignment includes all the topics related to “Malicious software & Internet security” such as, Viruses & related threats, Virus countermeasures, denial of service attacks, Hacking, Security policies & plan, strategies for a secure network. PREFACE With thousands of malicious codes and malicious software being distributed through several methods with the purpose of stealing identities or money and infecting computers, malicious software is indeed a problem that even antivirus vendors have to face as well as end-users. Preventing malicious software infections is easy, if you have the right tools, correct settings, up-to-date applications and operating systems and use safe computing practices. Internet security is a branch of Computer science specifically related to the Internet. Its objective is to establish rules and measure to use against attacks over the Internet. The Internet represents an insecure channel for exchanging information leading to a high risk of intrusion or fraud (e.g. phishing).Different methods have been used to protect the transfer of data, including encryption Extra layer of protection against malicious software - Antivirus and firewall software is not enough protection. We need to use extra layers of protection, such as a customized Hosts file, browser security add- ons, e-mail filters and software that checks e-mails for malware infected messages or attachments. These topics are well explained in this assignment in order to get brief knowledge about them. INDEX Sr.No. Topics Page No.
