Disabled Character

Kelly Marie Stewart

Hollyoaks Character – Hayley Ramsey

Kelly’s disability is that she is in a wheelchair. The disability is
portrayed correctly because some people treat her like a normal
person and as she would like to be treated but other characters
such as ‘Reece Ashworth’ treats her with no respect and make
her feel low and upset about her disability which makes you feel
upset for the character. The character is presented as just a
normal person but you can tell she sometimes gets upset about
her disability which makes you feel upset and sympathetic for
her. It is fair of how she is presented but also isn’t fair as Reece
makes her feel bad about her disability which makes you feel
angry towards him because it isn’t her fault. The character shows
a character which you wouldn’t think of a disabled person, she is
still sexual and still participates in every day life. The character
isn’t lazy as she is very independent and also looks after herself
but has help if needed, showing disabilities don’t always affect
the way you live and your independence.
