 CHILD TRUST FUND
The Child Trust fund will give
every new born child in Rothley
LABOUR LINK
& Mountsorrel a better start in
life with their own savings
account waiting for them when
they turn 18.
If your child was born any time
after September 2002 and you
are receiving child benefit you
can expect a £250 payment. If
your family income was less
than £13,000 last year, it'll be
£500 for you to put in a special
account for your child. That's
money that will grow over time.
The Child Trust Fund gives
every new born child a £250
payment. Some families will get
more money.
! You will get the payment if
you are receiving child
benefit and your baby was
born in September 2002 or
any-time since then!
! The payments should arrive
by April 2005. They can
only be used by parents to
open special tax free Child
Trust fund accounts.
! These accounts can be
topped up by parents,
relatives and friends tax-
free.
! The government will add
another payment when the
child is seven.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

LACK OF RESPECT FOR AUTHORITY
WHAT’S RICHARD’S BIG IDEA FOR A THIRD TERM LABOUR GOVERNMENT?
One of the questions I am most
frequently asked by people in
Charnwood is this “if you are
going to be our MP – what are
you going to do about anti
social behaviour and lack of
respect shown by young
people”? Of course it’s clearly
wrong to tarnish all young
people as trouble makers.
However I am acutely aware of
general concerns about anti
social behaviour committed by
some individuals and groups.
One idea that I have is to see
much closer and positive
relationship built up between
young people and the police –
early in youngsters lives.
In Rothley & Mountsorrel how
about having a pilot project in
local infants schools where they
would “adopt a police officer”?
This police officer would then
be a permanent part of school
life and would interact with
children and teachers in order
to break down some of those
barriers that exist between
youngsters and the police/law &
authorities. Studies done
already in Nottinghamshire, and
also in other countries show
similar schemes produce really
positive results in the long term,
and can lead to a reduction in
crime.
