• Yahoo! Incorporated is an Internet service provider


that serves both users and business globally.
• Yahoo! Inc. has become the world’s largest global
online network of integrated services.
• Yahoo! Currently has 500 million users worldwide that
visit the site each month. Yahoo! is provided to users
in more than twenty different languages (Yahoo! Inc).
• The company also has office locations in Europe, the
Asia Pacific, Latin America, Canada and the United
States (Yahoo! Inc). Yahoo! Inc. is currently
headquartered in Sunnyvale, California (Yahoo Inc).

• In January 1994, Stanford graduate students Jerry yang
and David filo created a website named " Jerry's Guide to
the World Wide Web
• In April 1994, "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" was
renamed "Yahoo!".
• By the end of 1994, Yahoo! had already received one
million hits. Yang and Filo realized their website had
massive business potential, and on 2 March 1995.
• Yahoo! Inc. also operates Flickr, a photo sharing and
storing website (Yahoo! Inc profile). The company also
provides its users with web mail, instant messaging, music,
video, personals, and much more (Yahoo! Inc profile).

• By the end of 1996, there were eighteen yahoo portals


operating outside the united states and yahoo could be
accessed by users in twelve languages.
• In each country portals & directory are customized to
the taste & need of local users.
• New vision of yahoo, not only as an internet website
directory but as a global communication, media and
retail company whose portal can be used by anyone to
connect with anything or anybody on internet.

developed in technology that allowed users to access
flexible services like e-mail, instant chat, news, stock
alerts, personals & job placements services
• Yahoo put buyers & sellers together by facilitating e-
commerce transactions over W.W.W.
• All this helped yahoo not only generating revenues
from sale of advertising space on its web directory
pages.

• Koogle’s new strategy to make yahoo a “ Megabrand” by


becoming the most useful & web portal on internet.
• Key was to lock the users and increase their switching cost of
turning to new portal.
• Allow high degree of customization to its registered users in
areas of technology, entertainment or financial section.
• Goal of becoming a “ One-stop shop” that could cater to
almost every kind of service that internet users needed-
information, entertainment and retail.
• Online shopping with e-bay was a success.
• It established a personal dating service, streaming stocks
quote service, job hunting service and various premium e-
mail and web storage options. All this helped to increase
revenues and earning.
