But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God.
Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.

Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we
will not perish.”

When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and
did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.
Outline and Study Questions:
I. God Commissions Jonah Again (v.1-2)

a. Why does God give Jonah another chance to obey?

b. Assignment: Think about a time when God gave you another chance to obey His call
upon your life. How did you feel? What did you do with it?

II. Jonah Obeys God (v.3)

a. In your opinion, what changed in Jonah that caused him to be obedient?

b. Assignment: Write down 5 things God has called you to do. Check off the ones you
obeyed and ask yourself why for those you did not obey.

III. Jonah’s Message to Nineveh and Their Response (vv. 4-9)

a. What was the chief element of Jonah’s message to Nineveh?

b. Why does the author mention the size of Nineveh?

c. What does the King of Nineveh tell the people to do and why?

d. Assignment: Write down 5 things necessary for revival in your life, your community
and your nation. How will you help make this happen?

IV. God Shows Compassion on Nineveh (v.10)

a. What does this verse (10) tell us about the nature of God?

b. Assignment: Write down the times that God demonstrated compassion toward you.
