International monk marks 20 years since


massacre of 8888 protesters & gives update
on Cyclone Nargis
Venerable U Uttara, Secretary-General of the International Burmese Monks Organisation
(IBMO), has travelled from London to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the brutal
crackdown on pro-democracy protestors on 8 August 1988 (8888), killing over 3 000 people.

Venerable U Uttara will also provide an update on the IBMO’s humanitarian work in the wake
of Cyclone Nargis, as well as the political situation in Burma almost one year on from the
"Saffron Revolution" in September last year.

Venerable U Uttara is available for interviews from the afternoon of Saturday 2 August,
and will be at the following events:
