Metal Tray (Sheet metal)

Date:30/08/2010

Aim: To make a metal tray out of a given sheet metal of dimensions

150mmx150mmx34GI (0.23nm) .

Tools Required:

1) Sheet Metal

2) Tri Square

3) Steel Rule

4) Scriber

5) Snip

6) Bench Vice

7) Wooden Mallet

Procedure:

1) Take the metal sheet and check whether the angles of the sheet are 90°.

2) Using the steel rule and scriber mark squares of side 20mm at the four corners
of the sheet.

3) Remove all the four squares using a snip. Thus we get square of
110mmx110mm with extra edges as 110mmx20mm dimensions.

4) Insert the protruding edges in the bench-vice and fold it along the marking.
Beat it with a wooden mallet to get a finer finish.

All dimensions are in mm.

Inference:

The metal tray has been successfully prepared.

1) This tray is less efficient since edges are not properly locked.

2) While cutting of sheets care must be taken not to cross the markings which are
made.

Applications related to the exercise:

1) This can be used for serving and as medicinal tray.

2) It can also be used for decorative purposes.
