WHY YOU ARE NOT PROMOTED

Promotions to top management positions are governed by unwritten rules. If


you do not know what is the requirement only to interpret the vague
feedback?? and find a way to achieve your career goals.

Beeson has created a framework to help identify and address any problems
that may be getting in his way. The decisions of senior management
appointments to depend on three categories of skills:

(1) those non-negotiable, without which it considered for promotion and,

Competency models for leadership usually do not make these distinctions, and
most of them are not explicit on how they should demonstrate skills at

acquire and develop talent. Many of the unwritten rules are very difficult to
capture because they relate to technical or business knowledge. Rather, they
relate to the soft skills that give decision makers an intuitive idea of their
potential for success. To make matters worse, managers and human resource
professionals often provide feedback intentionally vague for fear of losing
good employees. You have to dig very useful inputs for executives and
colleagues project a sincere desire to understand what is blocking your
progress. Ask questions, but do not lobby or argue. Avoid comments or
gestures that make you seem defensive, as it could cause the other person is
silent or take the conversation to an area easier. And watch out for key words
and phrases in the comments on the need for better leadership that can mask
the fundamental issues.
