* “Binding” means “imposing a moral necessity” (just as physically tying someone up imposes a physical necessity on him or her).
My “conscience is binding” means that I am morally obliged to act according to my conscience; or at least not to act against it.

Aquinas’s examples for good actions:
• Refraining from fornication (i.e., being chaste);
• Believing in Christ.

Aquinas’s examples for bad actions:
• Killing the apostles;
• Committing adultery.
