E-MAIL
Electronic mail commonly called email or e-
mail, is a method of exchanging digital
messages across the Internet or other
computer networks. Originally, email was
transmitted directly from one user to another
computer. This required both computers to be
online at the same time. Email servers accept,
forward, deliver and store messages.
An email message consists of two components,
the message header, and the message body,
which is the email's content.
SNAIL MAIL
Snail mail or smail— named after the snail with its slow speed
— used to refer to letters and missives carried by conventional
postal delivery services. The phrase refers to the lag-time
between dispatch of a letter and its receipt, versus the
virtually instantaneous dispatch and delivery of its electronic
equivalent, e-mail. It is also known, more neutrally, as paper
mail, postal mail, land mail, or simply mail.
Snail mail is also a term used in reference to pen palling. Snail
mail penpals are those penpals that communicate with one
another through the postal system, rather than on the internet
which is becoming the more common medium.
Some online groups also use paper mail through regular gift or
craft hot topics. In some countries, services are available to
print and deliver emails to those unable to receive email, like
people with no computers or internet access.

Email has outpaced the traditional letter for
residential use, perhaps a timely development as
mail carrier Consignia considers dropping the
second post. Internet measurement company
NetValue found that 550 million emails were sent
and received in British homes over the month of
January, compared to 258 million letters handled
by the Royal Mail in the same period.
NetValue found that nearly 13 million people
regularly used email in their homes, sending about
12.3 emails and receiving 39.1 during the month.
