The Office of Education Abroad

When I heard that a representative from the Office of Education Abroad was

visiting our class, I thought I would be very bored with what they had to say. I was

pleasantly surprised, not only by the presentation itself, but also by the information

that was presented. I have always assumed that traveling to another country to

continue my education would be something that I could not do. I come from a poor

family, and the bulk of my college education is relying on financial aid. I thought that

I would not be eligible for financial aid if I visited another country for education. I

also thought traveling would be much more expensive than it really is. Furthermore,

I would have never guessed that there are so many scholarships and grants

available to students who are wishing to travel for education. I also assumed you

had to know a foreign language to travel. The representative debunked this myth,

and pointed out that we could even travel to another English speaking country.

I learned a lot about traveling abroad in this information session. It taught

me things I didn’t know, and corrected the things I thought I knew. I am now excited

about planning a trip out of the country for a semester! I will be visiting the Office of

Education Abroad very soon.
