To Whom It May Concern:

I had the opportunity to hire Matthew Cannella as the communication intern for Sea Turtle
Conservancy in 2009. His work was an important contribution to the annual Tour de Turtles
educational event. Matt also focused on strategically growing online support for sea turtles
among leading social networking websites.

From day one, Matt immersed himself in Sea Turtle Conservancy’s mission and culture. He
diligently conducted research before undertaking any assignment and, in the process, became
very knowledgeable about sea turtles and conservation efforts. This lent weight to his
contribution as an intern, allowing staff to entrust him with several projects.

Matt was responsible for Tour de Turtles media and public relations outreach. In particular, he
focused on using social networking to help raise awareness and garner support for sea turtle
conservation programs and the organization in general. This resulted in an increase of support
and funding for the Tour de Turtles program.

Additionally, Matt’s dedication continued after his internship. He has volunteered his writing and
editing skills for several projects, including writing a grant in support of Tour de Turtles.

Matt’s commitment to quality work is exemplary and makes him a great candidate for any
position focused on communications. He is a team player and energetic, which contributes
greatly to his work ethic.

If you are interested in speaking with me further about his work with Sea Turtle Conservancy,
please feel free to reach me at 352-373-6441 or rocio@conserveturtles.org.
