Samone Turnbull Artist-in-residence

Term 3
10 week programme
Artist worked with 2 year 10 Art classes during a double lesson, continuation of tasks occurred
in following 2 single lessons

1. Introductory painting Study – layers of primary colours, building tone and form, textural
brush strokes, using paint with gesso and paint with medium
2. Group painting – based on techniques learned in first painting colour study, students
complete a prescribed section of one of Samone’s paintings
3. Individual painting study – students choose a section from their own selected image to
complete a colour study in same technique used above.

Students also completed a written assignment based on Samone’s background, analysis of one
painting and reflection on skills developed during the artist’s residency. Each week students
would record and reflect on the progress and process of the work

Week 1
Double lesson Programme introduction
Samone presents to the 2 year 10 groups (background, chronology of work,
discussing themes/ideas/influences
First painting study is introduced
Students begin still life construction (section of box and painted)
Single lesson Still life construction completed
Single lesson pencil tonal drawing of object in setting – focus on composition

Week 2 First colour of painting study

Week 3 Second and third layers of painting study (complete first painting study)

Week 4 Group Project begins

Week 5 Group project completed

Week 6 Individual painting study begins

Week 7 Individual painting study completed

Week 8-10 Completion of painting studies
