Mr. Farber expresses frustration that Liberal MP Joe Volpe continues to use the proposed Holocaust memorial in Ottawa as a "political football" by disagreeing with its funding structure, despite his own party unanimously passing the bill to establish it. While Volpe is free to disagree, the funding process is now clearly outlined in legislation. Mr. Farber urges priority be placed on expediting passage of the bill in the Senate so the funding and building of the memorial can begin as soon as possible.

Re: Parties Disagree On Holocaust Memorial Funding, Dec. 13.
I have a great deal of respect for Liberal MP Joe Volpe, however, it is distressing and frustrating to see him continue to use the proposed Holocaust monument in Ottawa as a political football. Mr. Volpe is free to continue to disagree with the funding structure of the monument. However, the new legislation clearly spells out the funding structure and, to the credit of his own Liberal party, it joined the other three parties to unanimously pass Bill C-442, an Act to Establish a National Holocaust Monument. It is time for him to move on. Priority should be placed on expediting passage of the Bill in the Senate so that the process of funding and building the Holocaust monument can start as quickly as possible. Bernie M. Farber, CEO, Canadian Jewish Congress, Toronto.
