International Organization for
Standardization (ISO)
• ISO stands for - International Organization for Standardization

– A world-wide federation of National Standard Bodies from some 140


countries, one from each country. Based in Geneva, Switzerland.
– It is a non-governmental organization established in 1947.

• ISO’s name
– From “equal” to “standard”, the line of thinking that led to the choice
of “ISO” as the name of organization is easy to follow.
