Mumbai’s History
• Mumbai consisted of seven islands namely
Colaba, Mazagaon, Old woman’s island,
Wadala, Mahim, Parel & Matunga-Sion.
• The group of islands which have since been
joined together by a series of reclamations
formed part of the kingdom of Ashoka the
famous Emperor of India.

1. SIDDHI VINAYAK TEMPLE

The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganpati Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord GANESH.
It is located in Prabhadevi Mumbai (INDIA). It was originally built by Mr Laxuman Vithu &
Mrs Deubai Patil in Nov 19, 1801. The Siddhi vinayak Temple receives donations of around
Rupee 100-150 million every year which makes it mumbai city’s richest temple trust.
2. GATEWAY OF INDIA

The Gateway of India is a monument in Mumbai. As the name suggests it was the
monument that visitors arriving by boat would have first seen in the city of Bombay.
It is located next to The Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai.
3. MARINE DRIVE

Marine drive is an inverted C shaped six lane concrete road in South Mumbai. It is
also known as QUEEN’S NECKLACE because at night time when the street lights are
Switched ON it looks like a glittering diamond necklace- a sight to be hold.
4. HAJI-ALI

The Haji-Ali durgah is a mosque located on the coast of Worli in southern part of
Mumbai. The durgah is one of the most recognizable mosque of Mumbai. On
thursdays & fridays the shrine is visited by atleast 40,000 pilgrims.
5. ELEPHANTA CAVES

It is a UNESCO world heritage site. This island is located on an Arabian sea. It consist
of two groups of caves, the first is a large group of five Hindu caves , second a smaller
Group of Buddhist caves. The Hindu caves consist of rock cut stone sculptures of Hindu
Lord SHIVA.
