**Arm Span vs.

Height Lab (Copy the **starred items** into your composition book)

**Question: Is there a relationship between human arm span and height?

**Hypothesis: If I measure my arm span and compare it to my height, then

I will find…

Test the Hypothesis:

1. You will work with a lab partner. Have your partner spread his/her arms out
straight from the shoulders on each side of the body.

2. Estimate your partner’s wingspan, in centimeters. Record your estimate in

your observation table .

3. Using yarn, measure the distance in centimeters from the tip of the longest
finger on one of your partner’s hands to the tip of the longest finger on the
other hand. This is the armspan. Your measurement should be to the
nearest millimeter. Record this measurement in your observation table.

4. Have your partner remove her/his shoes. Estimate your partner’s height in
centimeters. Record your estimate in your observation table.

5. Measure your partner’s height from the bottom of the heel to the top of the
head. Record the data into your observation table.

6. Reverse Roles and repeat steps 1-5.

7. Record data on the board in front of the classroom.

8. Graph the data of the data on the board. Plot the armspan on the x-axis and
height on the y-axis. Glue into your comp book.
