The description of the effect of colors in interior design

Colours have very important role in interior design. If a designer pay attention to the importance of
the colours, he can present better interior. One of the most important effects of colour in interior
design is psychological effects. It is a powerful tool for interior designers to influence people’s
behaviors and their emotions. Colours can directly have strong effect on people emotions and on
their feelings (Nazkaya.H, 2004). According to Josef Alber as a painter and colour theorist (1970),
“colours present themselves in continuous flux , constantly related to changing neighbors and
changing conditions “ (Grimmley.c & Love.M , 2007).

Colours also can affect on peoples physical health. All the colours have electromagnetic energies.
Those energies have a direct relation with people health. Whenever a person sees a colour , nervous
system of body sends some sense to his brain, after that depends of the colour ,body creates a
reaction( Marberry.S & Zagone.L,1995). Moreover colours have nostalgic effect too. Colour is also
associated with different historical interior style. You may experience similar feelings of the past or
another location when you enter a place with special design. When you want to interior place and
you want to interior that place like a period time in past or you want to move the sense of another
place or another time or you want to interior a place with historical symbol, colors are the most
important and easiest keys which make better interior. For example neoclassical colors in eighteen-
century England were pale and green, lilac, Apricot, opal tints and a stronger range of blues. Or if
you want to move the sense of old France to the costumer you can design your place with Pompeian
red, chocolate brown, Olive green, burgundy and gold. These colors are used a lot in old France. And
when you use it in your interior you can feel old France easily. These days it is the most popular ways
to reconstruction of an old place or old memories. Colours can be a symbol of a culture or a
nationality for instance red can be a symbol an American Indians moreover it is the colour of luck for
Chinese people and it is symbol of Christ’s blood for Christian(Gibbs.J, 2009).
