SHISHAPANGMA EXPEDITION

(40 days)

Shishapangma is the 14th highest mountain in the world. Rising only a few miles west of
the Kathmandu-Lhasa Highway, it is the only 8000m peak to lie entirely in Tibet. But it lies
close enough to the Nepalese border, shrouded behind the great peaks of Langtang.
Shishapangma has two summits and the altitude at the peak ranges from 8013m to 8046m.
The commonly climbed is the Central summit (8013m). The ascent up Shishapangma is
relatively safe and straight forward. Climbers regard it as one of the most straight-forward
8,000m climbs and its summit is frequently achieved.

The original North West Ridge route is an excellent objectively quite safe, and the terrain
offers good camp sites at the Tibetan Plateau (lying in the Himalayan Shadow usually
provide excellent topping-out opportunities). Not as crowded as other peaks, you can look
ahead for a 'just our team and the mountain' experience.
