Concept meaning and definition
of poverty
► Poverty is a social phenomenon in which a
section of the society is unable to fulfill even
the basic necessities of life.
► When a substantial segment of a society is
deprived of the minimum level of living and
continues at a bare subsistence level, the
society is said to be plagued with mass
poverty.
Causes of poverty in India
► There are atleast two main schools of
thought regarding the causes of poverty in
India they are-
The developmentalist view.
The neoliberal view.
► There are also varieties of more direct
technical factors.
► And some cultural factors also contribute to
it.
