GREATER MOHALI AREA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
The rapid growth and development of Chandigarh and its surrounding areas exerted pressure on its land,
services and utilities and gave birth to Mohali Punjab as the Punjab arm of tri-city in the late 60's. Since
Chandigarh and its periphery areas are most sought after by investors, developers, companies, professions and
institutions, the Punjab Government intends to meet the aspirations of all the groups by developing this region
as world class destination. Creation of a separate development authority for Greater Mohali in 2006 was a
deliberate step towards achieving this objective.
The state government has taken the vital initiative for planning and developing Mohali and its
surrounding areas which are strategically situated immediately on the three sides of Chandigarh. Also
regional plan for the entire Greater Mohali spread over 1200 sq.kms and six towns falling in it including
Mohali is in place with a view to promoting and securing planned development of the entire area for
which internationally acclaimed planning consultants (JURONG Consultants Pte. Ltd., Singapore) were
engaged. The planning of Mohali is a repeat of Le Corbusier's grid pattern and all the towns in Greater
Mohali region have been well connected and integrated with Chandigarh.

MOHALI FAST FORWARD >>»

Mohali boasts of investments from Corporates such as Infosys Technology Ltd., Dell, Quark India Pvt. Ltd.,
Philips India Ltd., Ranbaxy Laboratory Ltd., Semi-Conductors Ltd., who have already setup their offices here.
All major builders and Real Estate developers of national reckoning such as DLF, Ansals, Emmar MGF, Unitech,
TDI, Parsvnath etc. have made their presence felt in and around Mohali.
Furthering the knowledge base, Mohali is developing a knowledge city in its sector 81 which houses Indian
School of Business, Nano Science and Technology Institute (INST), Indian Institute of Science Education and
Research (IISER), Bio Technology Park, National Agri Food Bio Tech Institute (NABI) & Bio Processing Unit.
Besides this Mohali has NIPER, NIFT etc. in other sectors.
Cricket which is almost like a religion in India has found its rightful place in Mohali with establishment of PCA a
cricket stadium.

CHANDIGARH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

It is envisaged that the upgradation of Chandigarh airport to international status will certainly boost the local
economy with more business inflow in the tourist, commercial manufacturing and logistics sectors. The
Chandigarh airport has been upgraded to an international airport for which 300 acres of land has already been
acquired and handed over to Airport Authority of India for construction of a new International Terminal towards
Mohali side. This is going to open Greater Mohali to the international arena with the right marketing strategy
and more foreign investments will flow into the town due to its world wide punjabi NRI network. Apart from this,
there is also a proposal establish a Central Business District in Sector 62 which will facilitate more investments
in the commercial and business sectors.
It is now increasingly recognized that aviation, far from being a mere mode of transportation is a boost to
sustainable development of trade, tourism commerce and industry.

AEROCITY AND ITS VISION

The vision of GMADA to have an airport city (Aerotropolis) near the airport will shape business dynamics and
urban development in this century as much as highways did in the 20th,rail roads in 19th and sea ports did in
18th Century. Changi Airport in Singapore, Inheon in South Korea, Hong-Kong International Airport are some of
the trendsetters in the world.
The airport city has been strategically located to be very close to the airport yet it does not fall in the flight
path making it the most sought after residential destination to live in the region.
Aerocity- Mohali is proposed on approximately 1000 acres for Mix-Land-Use development comprising
4000 plots of 125 to 500 sq. yards, sites reserved for Commercial, Institutional, Multi storied flats etc.
and this project will be developed in the form of an Independent Integrated Township. Aerocity will
come up on both sides of the 200 ft. wide link road connecting International Airport from sector 66-
66(A) junction to National Highway-64 near village Chhat.
