 Low Power

 Robust : 802.15.4 provides a strong foundation for ZigBee, ensuring a reliable solution in noisy
environments

 Mesh Networking:provides high reliability and larger range.

 Interoperability : .  Users are assured that the devices go through certification & testing and
the ZigBee will work with other devices based on the same applications. Thus, providing
customers with peace of mind.

Typical application areas include:

 Home Entertainment and Control - Smart Lighting, Advanced Temperature Control, Safety &
Security and Movies & Music

 Industrial Plant– Process Control, Asset Management, Environmental management, Energy

Management, industrial device control

 Mobile Services – m-payment, m-monitoring and control, m-security and access control, m-
healthcare and tele-assist

 Commercial Building– Energy Monitoring, HVAC, Lighting, Access Control

There are three different types of ZigBee devices:

 ZigBee coordinator(ZC): The most capable device, the coordinator forms the root of the
network tree and might bridge to other networks. There is exactly one ZigBee coordinator in
each network since it is the device that started the network originally. It is able to store
information about the network, including acting as the Trust Centre & repository for security
keys.

 ZigBee Router (ZR): Smart node that links groups together .A router can act as an intermediate
router, passing data from other devices
 Security: Security and data integrity are key benefits of the ZigBee technology

 Low cost :The typical ZigBee radio is cost-effective. Chipset prices can be as low as $12 each in
quantities as few as 100 pieces.

 Range and obstruction issues avoidance: . If two network points are unable to communicate as
intended, transmission is dynamically routed from the blocked node to a router with a clear
path to the data's destination

 Low power consumption: Basic ZigBee devices operate at 1 mW RF power and can sleep when
not involved in transmission
