LISTENING LESSON PLAN

Time : 20 min.

Level : ıntermediate

Gender : F/M

Age : 16/18

Materials : Pictures,handouts

Interaction : T/Ss-Ss/Ss

Assumption : Students have listened a text similar to the listening text.


Anticipated Problems: The students may find it difficult to understand.

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, the students:

1.will have improved their listening skills by hearing the text.

2.will have improved their speaking skillls by using authentic language

3.will have grasped the topic clearly by discussing about the text.

WARM- UP

Time : 5 min.

Materials : Pictures

Interaction: T/Ss-Ss/Ss

What the students do : The students share their thoughts and personal
experiences related with the topic.

Grouping : Whole class

Aims :
-to draw the students interest and attention to the topic

-to motivate the students to listento the text.

-to activate their background information

STEPS

1. The teacher shows some pictures and asks some questions,”What is


s/he doing?”, “How does s/he feel?”,etc.
2. After gathering their answers, the teacher asks some questions about
students’ personal experiences “Which was your worst exam?”, “How
did you feel?” etc.
3. The teacher gathers students’ thoughts,feelings and moves into the first
listening section.

WHILE LISTENING

Time : 10 min. (5 min. for each session)

Materials : Handouts

Interaction: T/Ss-Ss/Ss

What the students do : The students are asked to listen to the text and
understand the topic clearly.

Grouping : Whole class

First listening

Aims :

- To get the students to understand the main idea.


- To get the students to understand the the text in general.

STEPS:

1. The teacher introduces the listening text.


2. The teacher gives information about the listening text and gives
handouts.
3. The teacher gives them a short time to have look at the questions.
4. Then the students are asked to listen to the text and answer the
questions.
5. After listening the text teacher checks their answers.

Second Listening
Aims :

-to get the students more specific information.

-to get the students understand the text in detail.

-to get the students listen to the text more carefully.

STEPS:

1. The teacher divides the class into two groups.


2. The students are asked to have a look at the chart in part B.
3. Then, the students listen to the text again and complete the chart with
short answers.
4. The students are asked to check their answers with group members.
5. Then the students write their answers on cards and come to the board.
6. When the teacher say start they post the cards on the board. Each
student posts only a card and the group which complete the chart firstly
will be winner.

POST LISTENING

Time : 5 min.

Materials : cards

Interaction: T/Ss-Ss/Ss
What the students do : The students discuss about the topic.

Grouping : Whole class

Aims :

- To encourage students to use authentic language


- To encorage them to improve their speaking skills.

STEPS:

1. The teacher asks three volunteers to come to the board and choose a
card. There are some senteces written on the cards to give information
about the context.
2. The teacher explains the steps one by one and says ‘They are in the exam
at the moment and we are monitoring them.
3. The volunteers act according to information on the card, they don’t talk
and they just use their body language and gestures to express their
feelings.
4. Then the teacher says ‘freeze’ and the students stop and the teacher
asks questions to the class, “How does s/he feel?” “Is s/he confident?”
“How do you understand this?”
5. After gathering the students’ opinions, the teacher sums up the main
points.
