5-Year-Old Dies in Car Crash

On December 26, 2010 at approximately 2:20 PM, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office,
Clinton Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance and University of Michigan Survival Flight
responded to Michigan Avenue west of Lima Center Road, in Bridgewater Township, for a
serious injury traffic crash involving two vehicles.
It was discovered a Pontiac van driven by a 38 year old male from Topeka, Indiana, was
traveling east bound on Michigan Avenue. The driver lost control of the vehicle on a patch of
ice and snow, crossed the center line and struck a Ford pickup traveling west bound. The 5 year
old back seat male passenger of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. The male
driver was transported by Survival Flight to University of Michigan Hospital and remains in
critical condition. The front seat passenger in the Pontiac, a 28 year old female, also from
Topeka, Indiana, was transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to the University of Michigan
Hospital in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the Ford pickup, a 52 year old male resident of Pittsfield Township was
transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital with non‐life threatening
injuries. Speed and road conditions were a factor in the crash.
