This document discusses process capability analysis. It describes process capability as comparing a process's output to customer specifications. It outlines the steps of a process capability study including selecting critical parameters, collecting data, analyzing sources of variation, and establishing process monitoring. It defines the Cp and Cpk capability indices, with Cp relating natural process spread to specifications and Cpk accounting for mean shift. The goal is to reduce process spread and center the mean to make the process capable.

PROCESS CAPABILITY ANALYSIS • What is process capability • Benefits of this analysis • When it is important to make this analysis • Three thing • Process incapable off target capable & on target • To compare the output of a process against the customers’ specifications. ARRANGEMENT OF DATA • The histogram arrangement • The boundaries • Mean value importance • Spread of bell shape and interpretation BASIC CONCEPT OF PROCESS CAPABILITY DIFFERENT SHAPES OF PROCESS CAPABILITY PROCESS CAPABILITY STUDY STEPS • 1. Selection of critical parameters • 2. Collection of data • 3. Establish control on process • 4. Analyze process data • 5. Analyze sources of variation • 6. Establish process monitoring system CP(POTENTIAL CAPABILITY) • Cp is the process capability index that indicates the process potential performance by relating the natural process spread to specification spread. It is normally used during the product design and pilot production phase. • Cp >1 represents the process capable and lies in the USL and LSL CPK (ACTUAL CAPABILTY) • This is a process capability index that indicates the process actual performance by accounting for a shift in the mean of the process toward either the upper or lower specification limit. • Cpk > 1 means the process is capable and centered between USL and LSL MAKING THE PROCESS CAPABLE
• Firstly the spread is reduced.
• Then the mean is shifted towards the center to make the process capable.
