LAB ASSIGNMENT # 4

OBJECTIVE:
To Design a 2nd order high pass active
filter.
EQUIPMENT:
•Breadboard
• Operational amplifier ( LM 741 )
• Resistors and Capacitors
• DMM
• Dual power supply
• Function generator,CRO and BNC probes
• Connecting Wires
Procedure:
• First of all I made the connections according to the diagram
as shown below.
• I designed the values of R1 and R3 using formula below.
• Then I calculate the frequency by taking the resistance 10 kΩ
using the following relationship:
f =1/(2π√(R R C C ))
c 1 3 1 2
• Probe 1 is connected to the input while probe 2 of CRO is
connected to the output pin of the 741 I.C.
• Then I observed the required waveform on CRO.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

OBSERVATION AND CALCULATION:

DESIGN FOR CUTOFF OF 5K:

If C=10 nF
Then R1=R3=3.1KΩ
Also R4=R2 * 1.586
So if R2=1K Ω
then R4=1.586KΩ

f(KHz Vin p-p Vo p-p

)
1 11 V 0.5 V
3 11 V 3.0 V
5 11 V 25 V
7 11 V 25 V
9 11 V 25 V

CONCLUSION:
After performing this experiment I concluded that its response was same as that
st
for 1 order but it was more effective because of cascading two high pass filters ,as its
response around cutoff was very sharp. Means when frequency was near to 5K (as in
table) there was a sharp rise in output voltage. Then showing more efficiency than 1st
order.
