CRIME AGAINST HUMAN LIFE

1. SUICIDE

Suicide is defined as the intentional killing of oneself & by one’s own authority. Suicide

is immoral because it contradicts natural law. Life is sacred, a gift from God. For the average

Filipino, life is simply “Hiram sa maykapal” and to destroy it’s the verge of ingratitude, a sort of

weariness to face the challenge of survival. But while someone may not extinguish his own life

directly, it is not suicide when he exposes himself to extreme.

2. MUTILATION

Mutilation is the cutting of a limb or removal of an organ integral to the human body. The

duty to preserve life extends to the conservation of all bodily parts and function, therefore, the

human body may not be mutilated unless the motive is the preservation of life, thus a dangerous

limb may be amputated since it imperils.

3. EUTHANASIA

Euthanasia or mercy killing is an act of inducing death painlessly in order to abort the

suffering of one afflicted with an incurable or unbendable sickness. Euthanasia is regarded as

homicide or murder. It is moral, bernara harmony.

4. DRUG ADDICTION

Drug Addiction is the state of psychic or physical dependence, or both on a dangerous

drug on periodic or continuo’s basis.

5. ALCOHOLISM

Alcoholism is the state of dependence on the stimulation of urine and liquor. In extreme

cases, alcoholism has the same evil effects of drug addiction. Alcoholism saps a person energy,

dulls his mind and destroy his capacity for creative activity, due to their erratic behavior and

short span of attention, alcoholics are holding jobs as well as establishing relationship with

others. Drinking wine is not evil in itself if done with moderation, intoxication, however it is self

degrading. Some Filipinos drink with their stomachs and not with their heads, others see it as

opportunity to prove their machismo when in fact it proves “low mentality”.

6. ABORTION

Abortion is the intentional expulsion of a fetus which cannot survive by itself outside of

the womb of the mother.

In some countries, abortion is considered a legitimate means for regulating the size of the

family or the population in some countries. It is not only legalized but is encouraged by

subdiziding it with taxpayers money. The Philippines however considers abortion a crime.

Ethicist and theologies distinguish between indirect and direct abortion.

1. Direct or therapeutic abortion is that which is perform for the purpose of saving the life

of the mother. This is regarded as morally permissible, the case however does not imply that the

mothers life is simply prepare over that of the child. The choice is between a life which can be

save and a life which cannot be saved, the moral dilemma is either to let the child live or save the

mother ( Bernard Haring, Free faithful in Christ 34).

The unicephalic fetus is cited as example, not only that this defective fetus cannot

survive. It can fully develop into a conscious human life. Thus it is justifiable to abort rather than

to danger the life of the mother.

It does not however belong to therapeutic medicine that aborting a fetus because it is

afflicted with some kind of genetic disease or possess the risk of it. The fetus do not the mother,

is the patient “ killing the patient is no therapy whatsoever” (ibid) what could be done or should

have been done in so far as genetic disease is foreseeable, is to avoid conception, the only moral

remedy is form immediate treatment after the delivery of their child.

2. Direct or selective abortion is the expulsion of the fetus by the willful wishes of the

parents for purposes other than saving the life of the mother. Thus abortion is resorted to as a

means of limiting the children as political play to control population growth or simply as means

of eliminating an “unwanted” baby for social or economic reasons. Direct abortion is immoral, it

violate the natural rights of the child to live.
