 Making a Thriller Opening Sequence: The
Process

– product (ie. other thriller opening sequences)
– audience (ie. who would watch a thriller and what would
they expect / want to see in the first few minutes?)

• Planning (shooting schedule)

people as possible.
Methods:
• face to face,
• hand out questionnaires and ask them to
return online: email / bebo / facebook / MSN
Messenger / your blogs
• a mixture of these methods.

What you need to ask:
• age
• gender
• how often they watch films
• how / where they watch films (cinema, DVD, TV
[free channels or Sky movie / pay per view],
internet, legal, pirate, etc.
• what genre of films they like and why
• do they like / how often do they watch thrillers?
• what does a film (or specifically a thriller) have to
do to grab their attention and make them watch it?
• what do they expect to see in a thriller?
