The performance

 Very successful in performance


o How does this way it is performed help educate his audience
 Consider things like: acting (how the actors should play particular roles),
casting (who would be suited to the various roles), set (what kind of set
would work best for this play), lighting, sound and music (what FX of
lighting, sound and music would help make the plays ideas more clear)
 This task works best if you are able to consider the play in atleast
one version that you have seen, as well as the 1954 version, directed
by Guy Hamilton.

Responsibility
 Most important theme of play is responsibility
o How often does responsible and responsibility appear? In what context?
 At beginning, Mr B gives a long speech on his (limited) view of responsibility.
 His definition of responsibility is followed by the arrival of the inspector.
 Inspector gives his definition (very wide) of responsibility immediately before he leaves.
o Comment and compare speeches
 Consider how Mr B’s comments reveal his views
o How do Mr B’s earlier comments on the likelihood of war,
