INTRODUCTION

1.1 THE BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Reality : Grammatical cohesion exercise is more significantly effective


than conventional textbook exercises on reading
comprehension.

Expection : The competence Based curriculum 2004 particularly for the


secondary level;the general objective of teaching
reading comprehension for the second year students of junior
high school is the students are expected to be able to
comprehend the text in the form of
narration,description,dialogue,etc,by having the reading
skills.

Theory says : The failure of readers to understand a text is affected by the


lack of knowledge of formal schemata (the
knowledge about the text such as vocabulary

sentence,grammatical,cohesion,coherent,organization,etc.)and
content schemata (knowledge about the subject matter of
text),(carrel, 1983).
Ricard and Rodgers (1982)state that method (in language
teaching) is a way of teaching a language which is
based on systematic principles and pracedures,that is
which is an application of view on how a language is
best taught and heard.

Gap : Does the Formal Schemata Mastery Significantly affect the


Students reading Comprehension of texts using
different teaching.
