Problems:
1. A and B are the points (−3,3) and (7,9). The line y=mx+c is the perpendicular bisector of the line segment
AB, find the values of m and c.

2. The line y=4−2 x meets the curve 2 x2 −3 y 2=3 x−3 at points P and Q . Find the coordinates of the
midpoint of PQ and the length PQ .

3. The line y +3 x+ 4=0 meets the curve 2 x2 + xy =3 at points P and Q . What is the area of triangle PQR if R is
the point (7,5).

4. ABCD is a parallelogram whose diagonals meet at K. Given that the coordinates of ABC are A(0,2), B(4,3) and
C(3,-1), find the coordinates of K and D. The line through C and parallel to BD cuts the x and y – axes at E and F,
respectively. Find the coordinates of E and F and the length of EF.

5. The figure shows a kite ABCD with BC = CD and AB = AD. The diagonals AC and BD
intersect at point X(6,8) and the coordinates of C is (7,10) and that of BX = CX.
a. Find the equation of AC.
b. Find the coordinates A, B and D.
c. Find the ratio AX:CX.
d. Find the area of the kite ABCD.

Lesson: Logarithm

The logarithm of a number to a given base is the power or exponent to which the base must be raised in
order to produce that number.

The logarithm of x to the base b is written logb(x) or, if the base is implicit, as log(x). So, for a number x, a
base b and an exponent y, if x=b y, then y=log b ( x ) .

The logarithm of a positive real number x with respect to another positive real number b, where b is not
equal to 0 or 1 is defined to be the real number s such that b s=x .
