Floriculture CDE

The purpose of the Floriculture CDE is to stimulate the study of and interest
in production and retailing of flowers, plants and foliage through the
agricultural education curriculum.

• All participants are encouraged to be in New York’s code of

official dress.
• All participants must be current members of the national and
state FFA associations.
• The individual(s), who will be completing the design practicum,
must have their own florist shears/tools.
• Students will need calculators, pencils, and clipboards.
• 4 participants

The following is a list of event areas on a rotation (all team members

will complete items 1 - 4; one member from each team must be
prepared to complete areas 5 – 9):

1. Team Activity
• Teams have 45 minutes to prepare.
• 200 points are possible.
2. General Knowledge Exam
• Students will have 40 minutes to complete this phase.
• 250 points are possible.
3. Identification of Plant Materials
• Students will have 40 minutes to complete this phase.
• There will be forty specimens.
• Students will be provided a copy of the national list at the
event site.
• 200 points are possible.
4. Identifying Plant Disorders
• Individuals have 20 minutes to complete this activity.
• There will be 10 questions.
• 200 points are possible.
5. Floral Arrangement Practicum
• Only 1 member from each team will be completing this
practicum.
• Individuals have 40 minutes to complete this activity.
• Students must itemize the bills.
• 100 points are possible.
6. Job Interview Practicum
 • Only 1 member from each team will be completing this
practicum.
• Individuals have 40 minutes to complete this activity.
• 100 points are possible.

7. Selling Practicum – One on One

• Only 1 member from each team will be completing this
practicum.
• Individuals have 5 minutes for dialogue and completion of
the sales slip to complete this activity.(Selling Plant Media)
• 100 points are possible.

8. Asexual Propagation
• Only 1 member from each team will be completing this
practicum.
• Individuals have 10 minutes to complete this activity.
• 75 points are possible.

9. Make and package a corsage.

• Only 1 member from each team will be completing this
practicum.
• Individuals have 20 minutes to complete the construction
of the corsage and complete and itemized bill for the
constructed corsage.
• 75 points are possible.
