INëRODUCëION OF PLANëS
‡ m are living organisms
belonging to the kingdom
m . ëhey include familiar
organisms such as trees,
herbs, bushes, grasses, vines,
ferns, mosses, and green
algae. ëhe scientific study of
plants, known as botany, has
identified about 350,000 extant
species of plants, defined as
seed plants, bryophytes, ferns
and fern allies.Green plants
obtain their energy by a
process known as
photosynthesis
INëRODUCëION OF ANIMALS
‡ Animals are all the creatures
belonging to the kingdom
Animalia, ranging in complexity
from simple organisms like
sponges to highly developed
human beings. Animals make
up at least three-quarters of all
the species on Earth, and they
are distinguished from plants
and other organisms by their
ability to move. Even tiny
animals have muscles and
therefore can get around-to
find food or a mate, or to get
away from enemies.
CHANGES BEë EEN PLANëS &
ANIMALS
± Plants generally are rooted in one
place an do not move on their own
(locomotion), whereas most
animals have the ability to move
fairly freely.
± Plants contain chlorophyll so they
can produce their own food
animals cannot produce their own
food and are dependent on other
plants and animals for food.
± Plants have either no or very
basic ability to sense. Animals
have a much more highly
developed sensory and nervous
system. Animals have and use
intelligence, plants do not.
