2006 CRF 450
Thank you for purchasing this engine from PR2 Racing. We understand you have a
choice in performance modifications and are happy you have chosen PR2 Racing.

** Engine has been developed to runVP MR9, VP U4 and VP Pro-4 Unleaded racing
gasoline. If not available use 1 part 110 octane race gas to 4 gallons of 92 octane
unleaded premium pump gasoline.
Break In: Use non-synthetic standard 10w40 motor oil for break-in only.
1. Start engine and warm.
2. Run engine on flat ground for 10 minutes (low load – NO MX TRACK!)
3. Allow to cool
4. Repeat step 2
5. Drain oil and replace with Synthetic Race Oil
6. Check valve lash: Intake= 0.005” and Ex= 0.010”
Set-Up/Recommendations
• Mix 2-3 ozs per five gallons of gasoline of “Marvels Mystery Oil”. This will help
lube your valves and top-end with the suggested gasolines.
• Main Jet; 170 55-85 168 for +85F
• Stock spark plug .028-.033 plug gap (this is critical)
• Needle – Use Stock needle 5th clip from top (stock is 4th –middle)
• 45 pilot 60-90F. Some Exhaust pipes require 48 pilot for all conditions. Use 48
pilot for less than 50F.
• Leak Jet: Standard is #55. This jet controls the accelerator pump squirt. If you
experience a “Bog” landing from large jumps when getting back on the gas,
decrease the jet to #50.
• Fuel Screw 2 to 2 1/2 turns out. Adjust accordingly to suit off-idle power delivery
and minor pressure/temperature changes.
• Twin air filters that allow you to remove the back-fire protector will enhance this
race engine.
• Transmission Oil: Drain and replace with 770cc of oil. Do not rely on
observation bolt for proper level.
• Use HD clutch springs. Stock Springs are inadequate for this modified engine.

Top End Replacement

• Replace piston and valve springs at 30 hours of operation. For re-order specify
PR2 specification Race Piston (06 CRF 450)
• Crankshaft shall be inspected after 60-80 hours of operation. Inspect copper
plating. Replace crank of worn badly
• Replace valves each 40 hours. Or replace when you have re-shimmed the lash 2
times for a total of 0.006”
• Check valve lash at each top-end replacement. Intake= 0.005” and Ex= 0.010”
