Getting started with WordPress

1. Go to wordpress.org and click on “get a free blog on wordpress.com.”(when your account

has been established,  go to wordpress.com, not wordpress.org)
2. Select a username and password.
3. Select a domain and blog title.
4. Select language and privacy setting.
5. Hit “create blog.”
6. Response should be “it’s yours.”
7. Type in username and password.
8. Log into your wordpress account.
9. You’ll see a dashboard.
10. The dashboard is where you do all the work on your blog.
11. Look at the section “Right now.”  This tells you exactly what is on your blog.
12. It tells you that you have one post.  Click on that post.
13. The post is called “Hello world.”  You’re going to change that.
14. Click on it and give it an appropriate title.
15. Then write a new greeting in the space below.
16. When finished, hit update.
17. Then hit visit site where you should see the work you just did.  Proofread it.  If there are
any errors, go back to dashboard, click on the post and make corrections.
18. Next go back to the “Right now” section on Dashboard.
19. You’ll see that you have one page.  Click on it.
20. The name of that page is “about”
21. Change it to “About me.”
22. Delete the content and write a brief about yourself
23. Hit update.
24. Go back to your dashboard.
25. Scan down the dashboard until you find “appearance.”
26. Click on it.
27. “Manage themes” will come up.
28. Under “Browse themes” click on “A-Z”
29. Click on page 2.
30. You’ll see “De Po Masthead.”
31. Click “activate” under it.
32. Look at the top of the page for “Manage themes.”
33. You’ll see “New theme activated.”
34. Click on “visit site.”
35. This is your website.
36. What you’re seeing is the homepage.
37. It has a three-column layout.
38. We’ll be building on this website during the semester.
