The Beatles were one of the most popular and


successful pop groups in the world. Their songs are
over 40 years old but they are still played on radio
stations every day. Songs such as Yesterday, Love
Me Do, Yellow Submarine and When I’m 64 are just
some of the songs of the Beatles of the 1960s.
The Beatles were all born in Liverpool, a city in
the northwest of England. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo
Starr were the members of the band. In 1957, Lennon and McCartney formed a
band called The Quarrymen. In 1958, Harrison, who was only 15 years old, joined the
band and they changed the name to The Beatles. In 1962, Ringo Starr became the
band’s drummer.
In 1963, Please, Please Me was number 1 in the British charts. Their music
was completely different and young people liked it. The group became famous all
over the world.
