presentations, case studies, business games, simulation and hands-on business assignments, along with
class room lectures.
A distinguishing feature of the NITIE pedagogy is the summer project of two months and the final
industry internship that lasts four months. The objective of these practical management assignments is to
enable the students to integrate their classroom learning with the practical aspects of a live business.
Unique to all of NITIE’s post-graduate programmes, these hands-on management exercises challenge
the students (a) to provide the “client company” with fresh perspectives on their business problems, and
(b) to deliver acceptable and innovative solutions to the client. The successful projects typically lead
every year to attractive job offers with the client companies – a sign that the pedagogy is effective.

NITIE LIBRARY : A BRIEF INFORMATION

The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Library is the basic knowledge resource for the NITIE's
learning community since 1963. The library is located in the main Academic building on 2nd floor (4500 sq.ft.
area).

The information sources in various forms in the Library cater to the educational needs of NITIE Community on
the subject areas of Industrial Engineering, Computer Science and Applications, Productivity, Manufacturing
Processes, Operations Research, Quality, Organizational Behaviour, Safety, Ergonomics, Marketing, Finance and
Economics and so on.

Library collection also includes books on Sciences, Social Sciences, Art & Literature and History to cater to the
needs of NITIE employees, their families and children. The collection of Hindi and Marathi literary classics are
for recreational reading. In addition, many English and regional language newspapers and current affair
magazines are subscribed and read widely.

The Library also has a special collection of standards, numbering about 73 for domain areas of Industry and
Quality, Safety and Health and 26 standards specific to environment in the areas of Toxicity, Waste, Pollution
control etc. The BIS Standards cater for specific needs of faculty, students and the industry executives.

The electronic information resources are the need of the hour and NITIE Library provides these through
Electronic Databases through INDEST Consortium:

1. PROQUEST database
2. IEEE database
3. ACM database

Besides the above, Library has a collection of electronic databases in the subject areas of Environment Science,
Finance and Business and Decision Science from Science Direct. The EBSCO database of Journals is broadly
focused on research needs of the General Management and Training areas. In addition, 'Emerald Insight'
database caters to the research needs in Manufacturing, Operations and Management subject areas.
The India Stat. Inc and CMIE database like PROWESS EIS enable users in their research pursuits about the
Indian Industry and Indian Statistical Information.
The Library functions in an automated environment with three servers one in UNIX and 2 in MS WINDOWS. It
also has 8 PC’s connected in LAN environment. Internet connectivity of 4 mbps band width supports all
Electronic Database needs of NITIE Library.
Nearly 57593 bibliographic records of books are on computer and can be searched on OPAC in intranet
environment throughout our Campus. Similarly each journal issue is also indexed and its bibliographic details
are available for all Technical Journals. This too is made available throughout the campus.
The Library software LIBSYS enables the users to search library collection by Author, Title, Subject, Class
Number, Publisher, Year and by Keywords (minimum 5 keywords for every book to make it easier for retrieval).
The library follows DDC 20th ed. Classification scheme and the books are arranged class wise in stack room.
While latest books are displayed in new arrival rack, latest issues of the journals are flagged and kept at the front
on journals racks. The bound volumes of journals of last 25 years are shelved alphabetically. The subject
