GREEN HOUSE

EFFECT
Green House Effect
Definition

 The green house effect is the rise in

temperature that the earth experiences
because certain gases in the atmosphere
trap energy from the sun.
Green House Effect
History
 The greenhouse effect was discovered
by Joseph Fourier in 1824, first reliably
experimented on by John Tyndall in
1858,
&
 First reported quantitatively by Svante
Arrhenius in 1896
Green House Effect
Gases
 By their percentage contribution to the
greenhouse effect on Earth the four
major gases are:
 Water Vapor, 36–70%
 Carbon Dioxide, 9–26%
 Methane, 4–9%
 Ozone, 3–7%
Green House Effect
Causes
Deforestation
Green House
Consequences
Global Warming
Extreme Weather
Increase Evaporation
Sea Level Rise
Drought
Less Ice & Snow
Efforts to Reduce Greenhouse Effect
 Prevent global warming by reducing your waste
electricity use.

Prevent global warming with more efficient light bulbs!
 Prevent global warming by turning down your hot
water heater.
 One good way to prevent global warming is choosing
to use power produced by alternative means rather than
by the burning of fossil fuels, which give off large
amounts of carbon dioxide. Solar energy can be a good
alternative to use.
