INTRODUCTION

What is a “Pest”

A pest may be defined as any organism that interferes with

production of the crop. In spite of the general category of
pests such as insects, diseases and weeds, there are many
other types including nematodes, arthropods etc.
 Group of insects which cause economic damage to a crop
are called as pests.
 Chemicals used to kill these pests are called pesticides.
 Pesticides market is very huge where hundreds of
companies are performing.
 This survey helps to find most preferred company of
pesticides by the farmers.
 The pests may be insects, plant diseases, fungi, weeds,
nematodes, snails, slugs, etc.
CONT……

 Insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc., are all types of

pesticides.
 Some pesticides must only contact (touch) the pest to be
deadly. Others must be swallowed to be effective.
 It is estimated that one third of the world's food crop is
destroyed by these pests annually.
