and My Space.

Yew Gen : Social networking sites provoke extreme reactions. You either like it or hate it. There are no
in betweens. The rise of social networking sites have been phenomenal partly due to the
immense freedom it affords. 

Victor : Almost every web surfer has an account in at least one of the social networking sites, for
these sites are the more enjoyable places to hang around in. However, the pros and cons
of social networking sites have become a topic for debates.

Yi Xiang : Just like in any development in technology, social networking has positive and negative sides.
Let us now discuss the outstanding pros and cons of social networking sites.

Cliff : Social networking sites have paved the way for easier communication to your friends, family,
or colleagues. One example is that instead of meeting in a certain place, you and your
classmates could discuss a school activity in a certain site that you are all members of,
thus saving you time and effort. 

Yew Gen : Virtual communities are also formed, which are composed of people connected together by
common interests, purpose, and goal. People of different races also get to mingle with
each other in just a few clicks.
Yi Xiang : Social networking sites can also be a tool to promote your business, services, products, or
websites. Due to the huge number of people who regularly use networking sites it has
found huge favors among advertisers. 

Victor : However, there are also disadvantages of social networkings. The most glaring disadvantage
of social networking sites is the risk of identity theft and fraud. The personal information of
users can be used by dubious people for illegal activities. Information like the e-mail
address, name, location, and age can be used to commit online crimes.

Cliff : Furthermore, someone pretending to be somebody else can make you believe that he or she
is up to some business offer, ask to meet up with you, and take your money. It has also
become easier for someone to stalk you and harass you online.
Victor : Since the social networking sites, are very poorly regulated so it can be a very fertile ground
for people trying to get even with you. They can spread malicious humor among your
friends and also download and morph your photos.

Yew Gen : Another cause of concern is cases of online harassment and stalking. Since the social

Yi Xiang : You should make use of the pros and cons of social networking sites to take precautions in
the kind of people you should trust and share some information about yourself to. 

Victor : And, at the end of the day, the best weapon that you have is sound judgment.
