The Bang System

In The Bang System, the muzzle brake is free to blow forward a

short distance. A clever little lever turns the forward motion of the
Muzzle Brake into backward force on the bolt carrier.

I have always thought this would be a good system for a small

“Thumper” type Carbine, or an Automag Sized pistol. In fact, you could
design them with many parts in common, and to utilize the same
magazines.

[Jeff Cooper coined the term “Thumper” to denote a Carbine that

might be limited in range–as Carbines tend to be–but due to large bore,
and heavy bullets at reasonable velocities, it is not short on stopping
power. He proposed the .44 Automag as a Flagship Cartridge.]

{May I suggest that anyone who builds a Rifle/Pistol pair, Christen

them “Bambi” and “Thumper”. Clever, Nicht Wahr?}

Bang’s muzzle brake was rather linear, but I think with some of
Bill Holmes’ Mushroomed shaped muzzle brakes–with top-biased
venting, a noticeable decrease in Recoil/Perceived Recoil/Muzzle Rise
could be realized.

Patent–but he seems far more interested in other aspects of the
Machine Gun that he’s describing.

Here is a look at a Bang Patent that doesn’t use a blow forward

Here’s a Patent by a very clever fellow named Grebey. He was

working on a .367 Magnum Carbine–Pump or Gas Operated way back in
1953.

This is the Patent# 2 640 396. Look him up–its worth the effort.
